Merry Christmas Mick, and all the best to you in 2024. I would like to mention that I discovered you by accident while I was searching for reliable and knowledgeable info about the Ukraine war on Twitter/X. I think military history and analysis is very important, but I am not an avid reader due to lack of time. But I HAD to subscribe to your substack. Why? Because your reporting, analysis (including historical and technical info) were so outstanding!! I could see that your depth of knowledge was great. And whenever you gave an opinion, it would come from someone with years of experience. So that meant that carefully reading what you write would be of enormous benefit to me. And you have not let me down. Thanks for all you do, especially your promotion of liberty for all.

Mick, thank you very much for your calm insights all year; they provide a much-needed perspective amidst so much bloviating. May I ask you to ponder on another conflict, Yemen?

How is it possible that the Houthis have gained so much territory there, and kept it against the combined efforts of Saudi Arabia and the UAE, in fact seeing them off the field? Why was a blockade not attempted years ago to stop Iran supplying their war matériels? Why was the West so asleep at the switch when Yemen’s strategic location was so obvious? No one - media; governments; military analysts - seems to be able to offer ANY insights into this: and that’s not just the above questions but also what are the root causes of this conflict; what do the Houthis want; why are they so difficult to subdue; is this a Sunni-Shia war or is this really just Iran being opportunistic; how might this end?

Thanks!

Thanks for your Christmas message, Mick. Your writing all year has been so clear and I gain comfort from your careful analyses and conclusions. It has been an horrendous year and I fear that you are correct... that the various conflagrations and disruptions around the world are nit going to be resolved any time soon. Thanks again so much for tireless work and every best wishes to you and yours for health, happiness and wonderful moments of joy as the year draws to a close. cheer, Louise
